UCC Renewal Leader Responds To Wethersfield Church Vote

CANDIA, NH  - Executive Director David Runnion-Bareford, of the Biblical Witness Fellowship Renewal Movement in the United Church of Christ, responded today to the vote of First Church of Christ in Wethersfield, Connecticut, to leave the United Church of Christ.

"It is a tragedy that the largest congregational church in New England, a regional lighthouse for spiritual renewal and ministry, should find itself forced to leave the United Church of Christ," Rev. Runnion-Bareford said. "This is another strong warning that the United Church of Christ is a denomination in disorder, disintegration and confusion. It is a loud call for the UCC to return in repentance to the authenticity of its founding faith and Biblical call to life in Jesus Christ as Lord."

First Church of Christ of Wethersfield is the largest congregational church in New England and had been the fifth largest congregation in the United Church of Christ. The United Church of Christ as a denomination includes most of the founding churches of New England. It is currently the loss leader in members and congregations among Protestant denominations in the United States. The UCC is facing severe financial shortfalls as a result.  It is the only denomination in the United States to wholeheartedly embrace the practice of sexual license among clergy and laity.
