Nineteen UCC Ministers in Maine Call for the "Unwanted" to be Killed

I
n an April 11th letter to Maine's Health and Human Services Committee, nineteen UCC Ministers called for state funded abortions. Their letter called for funding for women who could not afford abortions to "end unwanted pregnancies." Ironically in defense of their position the letter cited Proverbs 29:7, "The righteous care about justice for the poor but the wicked have no such concern." Apparently the ministers do not believe that God would regard unwanted, unborn human babies among the poor. Without explaining their contradiction, the letter acknowledges that "our faith tradition teaches us that life is sacred" and goes on to say that life and parenthood are precious.
