Disaster Assistance

World Relief

World Relief will be providing support to indigenous partners, focusing on India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.  In Sri Lanka, the National Christian Evangelical Alliance has 400 volunteers working 3 shifts putting together emergency distribution packages for families containing rice, sugar, tea leaves, water, plastic sheeting, blankets and clothes, soap, toothpaste, etc.

Whenever possible, World Relief utilizes the presence, strengths and human resources of the local church to respond to urgent humanitarian needs. Local churches are established in the communities they serve and can offer a ready assistance in times of crisis. They have an insider’s knowledge of the catastrophe they are facing and who is most affected.

Pray for the survivors and the families of the victims, that the Lord’s grace will be sufficient for them, for the aid workers that God will strengthen them through this time and for the Church, that we may respond sacrificially and demonstrate the Love of Christ through His Body.

Samaritan’s Purse

Samaritan’s Purse relief teams, which include medical doctors experienced in crisis response, are on the ground in Sri Lanka and Indonesia to distribute clean water, emergency food, cooking supplies, temporary shelter, and medicine.

To address the critical shortage of clean water, we are providing enough purification packets to decontaminate two million gallons—enough to supply 10,000 people with safe water for the next two months. We are also setting up systems that can desalinate ocean water and meet the daily needs of 12,000 people.

The tsunami has delayed plans by Operation Christmas Child to distribute gift-filled shoe boxes to about 100,000 children in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. The gifts are safe, but delivery will be postponed until the crisis passes.

Samaritan’s Purse is working closely with well-established Christian partners in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, and Thailand to bring help and hope in the Name of Jesus Christ. Please pray for the victims of this catastrophe and for our teams as we make every effort to save lives and share the love of Christ.
